THE Government has launched a £1.6 million fund to help farmers investigate different methods and manage water resources, according to a statement from the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Environment Agency.
Groups of farmers will be offered support to work together to store water and protect against the impact of drought through this fund launched on April 22.
The fund will be used by farmers to find out how they can better manage water for use in times of drought, helping to safeguard food security. Projects could include multi-farm reservoirs, treated waste-water recycling systems and water sharing schemes.
The fund will support studies and also investigate water demand and availability in the most water-stressed agricultural areas over next 25 years. It delivers on PM Rishi Sunak’s commitment at the last year’s ‘Farm to Fork’ Summit.
