NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an unbelievable, visionary and the most popular world leader with the commitment to move India forward as a global power. That is how US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo recently recalled her meeting with PM Modi during her visit to India last month, according to reports from Washington.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Indian Embassy in Washington on April 15, Raimondo shared the reasons she believes have led to the popularity of PM Modi.

The occasion was spring celebrations at India House, the residence of Indian ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The theme was ‘Celebrating Togetherness’. She was all praise for Indian Premier for his vision and a desire to lift people out of poverty, to move India forward as a global power. “And it’s happening,” she affirmed. During her recent India visit, Raimondo is said to have also bought a “Modi Kurta” for her husband.

The US Commerce Secretary described the PM as a “tech person”. She recalled she had been discussing with PM Modi details of open radio access networks (ORAN) and artificial intelligence. She recounted a moment when the PM commented that AI did not stand for “Artificial Intelligence”.

Taken aback, she asked, “Really?” And PM Modi said, “AI is the America-India technology ecosystem.” Indeed, that is how the visionary PM looks at evolving friendship and partnership between the world’s oldest and biggest democracies in leading to the future of technology.

Raimondo also shared how she had reached a day earlier to participate in Holi.
