MUMBAI: Vibrant Energy has signed its third power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon for a new 198-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Osmanabad, Maharashtra, according to a recent statement from the corporate renewable energy solutions provider.

The PPA for the project is expected to generate 6,97,261 MWh of energy annually and offset 4,94,137 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

Last year, the e-commerce giant had announced its partnership with Vibrant for its first two wind-solar hybrid projects in India. These projects, based in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, represent a total of 300 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity.

Amazon has reached a milestone of more than 1.1 GW of renewable energy capacity in India, making them the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in India, according to data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the release added.

The two earlier projects will be able to generate 1,163,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy, which is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power 380,000 average-sized households in New Delhi each year, according to an earlier press release from Amazon.

Combined with three solar farms in Rajasthan, Amazon now has five utility-scale renewable energy projects in India, representing more than 720MW of renewable energy capacity, it added in the media statement last year.

“Transitioning to renewable energy is one of the most impactful ways to lower carbon emissions, and Vibrant is at the forefront of supporting corporates in India on their journey towards net-zero carbon electricity,” Srinivasan Viswanathan, CEO, Vibrant Energy, said last month while announcing the Osmanabad project.
