Nishant BhaijiIn the picturesque city of Srinagar, on the banks of the magnificent Dal Lake, the third meeting of the Tourism Working Group took place at the imposing Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC).

Dignitaries including J&K Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, and Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh graced the event, marking a significant milestone for the region and India’s G20 presidency.

Session I and II

Amidst the serene surroundings, the first working session witnessed intense brainstorming as delegates delved into G20 India’s proposed ‘Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a vehicle for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.’ Building upon the momentum, the second session revolved around the discussion of the draft outcome document titled the ‘G20 Tourism Ministers’ Declaration 2023.’

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State Jitendra Singh unveiled the transformative Travel for Life Programme during the event. This programme represents an actionable and innovative approach that seeks to revolutionise the demand and supply dynamics of the tourism industry in the country. By promoting sustainability, it aims to drive a paradigm shift towards a greener and more responsible tourism sector.

Development schemes

In his inaugural address, L-G Sinha lamented the state-sponsored terrorism inflicted by neighbouring countries but lauded the success in isolating the terror ecosystem. Sinha attributed this achievement to the empowering development schemes implemented by the Central Government and the efficient administration of the Union Territory.

With an air of optimism, Sinha emphasised the dawn of a new era in Jammu and Kashmir, brimming with boundless opportunities for growth and peace. He highlighted the influx of foreign investments and the promising signs of prosperity on the horizon. Additionally, he underscored the eradication of injustice, exploitation, and discrimination that had plagued various segments of society over the past seven decades, assuring social equality and equal economic opportunities for all citizens.

Rejuvenation, sightseeing

While in Srinagar, G20 delegates had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the mesmerising beauty of the region. Against the backdrop of the breathtaking Zabarwan mountain range, they began their day with a rejuvenating yoga session. Afterwards, they embarked on a sightseeing tour, visiting the enchanting Nishat Garden and the prestigious Royal Spring Golf Course, both located along the idyllic Dal Lake.

G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant applauded the soft power of Kashmir and expressed hope that the delegates would become ambassadors for the region. He noted the alignment between the region’s Sufi culture and the philosophy of G20, emphasising the unity and familial spirit demonstrated in creating an exceptional experience for the G20 participants.
