PRIME Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated his commitment to further strengthen India UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the third term of the NDA Government In his talks with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy, on June 14, the two leaders also reaffirmed the shared commitment of the two countries to further strengthen bilateral relations.
They also expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between the two countries.
The leaders discussed the implementation of the ‘Roadmap 2030’ and expressed happiness on progress in all areas of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including regular high-level political consultations, defence and security, trade and economic collaboration.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “It was a delight to meet PM in Italy. I reiterated my commitment to further strengthen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the third term of the NDA Government. There is great scope to deepen ties in sectors like semiconductors, technology and trade. We also talked about further cementing ties in the defence sector”. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, described the meeting between the two leaders as “fruitful.”
PM Modi also met US President Joe Biden and said India and the US will keep “working together to further global good.” The Modi-Biden conversation came nearly seven months after Washington’s allegations of an Indian link to a foiled plot to murder Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in New York.
Human-centric tech
Addressing the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit, PM Modi said it was a matter of great satisfaction for him to be attending the Summit after his reelection in the largest democratic exercise in the history of mankind. He said for technology to be successful, it had to be underpinned by a humancentric approach. In this context, he shared India’s success in leveraging digital technology for public service delivery.
Talking of India’s AI Mission premised on ‘AI for All’, PM Modi emphasised that this technology should be aimed at fostering progress and well-being of all. The Prime Minister also elaborated on India’s energy transition pathway noting that its approach was based on availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability. He said India was working towards achieving the target of net zero by 2070
