THOSE who are considered vulnerable among the UK’s population have been asked to start using face masks while vaccinations have been accelerated, even as there appeared a significant surge in daily cases of coronavirus earlier this month, according to reports. Such inputs have led to the question whether these indicate the return of Covid-19.
LB 1 variant active
According to an article on TheHealthSite.com, “Speaking to the media, experts have stated that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is strictly monitoring the new COVID-19 variant which has been designated as LB.1. It is important to note that the viral outbreak has largely been unnoticed for the last two years.”
It also stated that “In a report presented, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has revealed that almost one in every 25,000 British citizens was infected by COVID-19 on June 26, 2024. Which is a huge number as per the experts.”
Some reports said that the number of patients admitted in hospitals with suspected Covid symptoms rose to 3.31 per 100,000 in the week ending June 16 as compared with 2.67 per 100,000 in the last week. Data by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) revealed that laboratory tests were conducted across the nation, the majority of which involved swabs taken from patients receiving healthcare, said a WION report.
Based on this information, BBC decoded that 4.37 instances of COVID-19 were reported per 100,000 hospital admissions in England on June 26, which means one in 25,000 hospital admissions tested positive for Covid on that particular day, it further stated. Meanwhile The Telegraph quoted a leading scientist suggesting that Euro 2024 could be behind the summer Covid wave, it added.
