VERTICAL Aerospace, a global aerospace and technology firm committed to zero emissions aviation, has been awarded an £8 million ($10 million) grant by the UK Government through the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) Programme.

The funding, dedicated to developing next-generation propellers for the VX4 aircraft, marks Vertical’s third successful venture with the ATI Programme, bringing their total UK Government grant funding to £37 million ($47 million).

This significant investment underscores the UK’s crucial role in shaping the future of urban air mobility, promising a paradigm shift in city-tocity transportation with its clean, green, and low-noise aviation solutions. Vertical’s VX4 aircraft, currently undergoing production as a more advanced and fullscale prototype, stands at the forefront of these transformative efforts.

Industry Minister Nusrat Ghani highlighted this propeller project’s alignment with the Government’s commitment to nurturing the aviation sector while fostering cutting-edge technologies.

Stephen Fitzpatrick, Founder and CEO of Vertical Aerospace, hailed the project as a significant stride in propelling Britain to the forefront of electric aviation innovation and urban air mobility. With support from the ATI Programme and consortium partners, Vertical remains committed to shaping the future of aerospace technology.

Vertical’s eVTOL propeller technology and propulsion system aims to surpass existing standards, offering reduced weight, inertia, and noise levels. This grant announcement follows Vertical’s commitment of an additional $50 million investment by CEO Stephen Fitzpatrick.

Mark Scully, Head of Technology, Propulsion and Advanced Systems at ATI, emphasised the crucial role of rotor technologies in eVTOL aircraft success, highlighting the project’s contribution to growing knowledge, skills, and capability within UK aerospace industry
