NEW DELHI: Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the developments in West Asia with Israel and Palestine leaders, he spoke to Jordan’s King Abdullah on October 23. PM Modi and King Abdullah called for intensive efforts towards an “early resolution” of the crisis.

PM Modi also expressed shared concerns regarding terrorism, violence and loss of civilian lives and emphasised the need for concerted efforts for early resolution of the security and humanitarian situation.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Spoke with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. Exchanged views on the developments in the West Asia region. We share concerns regarding terrorism, violence and loss of civilian lives.

Concerted efforts needed for early resolution of the security and humanitarian situation.” On October 10, the Prime Minister had first spoken with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu to reiterate “solidarity” with the Israelis.

He also had a talk with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on October 19, two days after the explosion at Gaza City’s al-Ahli Hospital. PM Modi reiterated India’s long-standing and principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue. The Prime Minister said that India will continue to send humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people. President Mahmoud Abbas thanked Prime Minister for India’s support and appreciated India’s position.

Jordan, which signed a peace deal with Israel in 1994, is an important stakeholder in the IsraelPalestine conflict as it shares border with the West Bank and Palestinians make up a significant number of its population.
