FIRST Cabinet meet

Nod to aid for 3-crore houses under PMAY
IN the first Cabinet meeting of the newly-formed NDA Government in New Delhi on June 10, it was decided to provide assistance to three crore additional rural and urban households for the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X: “A boost for ‘Ease of Living’ and dignity for crores of Indians!

“The Cabinet has decided to further expand the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and construct 3 crore additional rural and urban houses. This decision underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the housing needs of our nation and ensuring that every citizen leads a better quality of life. The expansion of PMAY also highlights our government’s commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare.”

The Central Government has been implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana since 2015 to provide assistance to eligible rural and urban households for the construction of houses with basic amenities. Under the scheme, a total of 4.21 crore houses have been completed for eligible poor families in the last 10 years. All the houses constructed under the scheme are also provided with other basic amenities

FIRST file signed

Rs 20k cr for farmers under PM-KISAN
AFTER taking charge as Prime Minister for the third time on June 10, Narendra Modi signed the first file authorising release of 17th instalment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi. This will benefit 9.3 crore farmers by distributing around Rs 20,000 crore. After signing the file, PM Modi said, “Ours is a Government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come.”

The PM-KISAN Scheme was launched in 2019 with an aim to provide income support to all landholder farmer families across the country. Under the scheme, the financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year is provided to the eligible family of farmers.

The scheme is being implemented as Central Sector Scheme with 100 per cent financial support by the Central Government. The amount is being transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, in three instalments of Rs 2,000. The scheme has benefited more than 11 crore farmer families and over three lakh crore rupees has been transferred in their account till date

FIRST foreign task

India attends BRICS Ministerial meeting THE first foreign policy assignment for India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic third term was the country’s participation in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting, at Nizhny Novgorod in Russia on June 10. Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), led the Indian delegation at the meeting.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov opened the BRICS Ministerial with a minute of silence in memory of the deceased former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. In his opening remarks at the meeting, Lavrov said, “We are glad to welcome you to one of the oldest cities in Russia, Nizhny Novgorod, whose history goes back more than 800 years.” He noted that the expansion of BRICS is a “clear confirmation of the process of formation of a multipolar world order.” This is the first meeting of Foreign Ministers since the expansion of BRICS in 2023. The 10 full members of the association now include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, with new members Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia joining the grouping in 2023.
