Jayanta Bhattacharya

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed India’s foreign policy to include “global common good”. It is time to come together in making the G20 presidency – as the PM always says – about healing, harmony, and hope.

This is the time to lead with wisdom and a clear vision. India today has much more to offer in terms of a philosophy towards world upliftment. The time of the ‘Vishwaguru’ is now.

Since the Modi Government came to power in India, ‘Sabka SaathSabka Vikas-Sabka Vishwas’ has been a commitment – a commitment at cooperation and development with the trust of the people. And PM Modi’s efforts are not only for India and Indians, but for the global populace. The Prime Minister’s approach reflects not just idealism, but genuineness. He is practising that mantra not only within the country but outside too. Whenever the occasion arises, India is at the forefront with a helping hand.

Support to Turkey

Immediately after the recent devastating earthquake in Turkey, India was quick to come in support. The love and gratitude were evident with a Turkish woman’s warm hug and kisses for an Indian Army doctor. The moving picture was an acknowledgement to India’s ‘Operation Dost (Friend)’ efforts in rescue and rehabilitation work.

Since PM Modi assumed power, India has carried out several assignments and has emerged as a leading benefactor. As the world was struggling with the aftermath of a pandemic, India introduced the ‘Vaccine Maitri (Friendship)’ initiative in January 2021. It was an effort at helping countries by supplying India-made vaccines. And till July 2022, India had supplied over 235 million of vaccines to 98 countries.

Beneficiary countries

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, were among the beneficiary countries.

In 2011, when a tsunami wreaked havoc in Japan, India sprung into action, dispatching relief materials and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel for search and rescue operations in Onagawa. In 2015, following the earthquake in Nepal, NDRF teams were deployed along with relief material. A true friend in deed… in need!
