NEW DELHI: Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria G Balasubramanian is actively working to strengthen ties between the two countries, focusing on energy transition, renewable energy, and offshore fields. In July this year, he reiterated this commitment at the Nigerian Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition. He highlighted that Nigeria is a part of the International Solar Alliance, underlining the role of renewable energy in India’s approach.

High Commissioner Balasubramanian discussed India’s expertise in areas such as hydrogen storage and internet-based operations, underlining the potential for collaboration between the two nations. The field of fintech also emerged as a significant area of interest for India and Nigeria, offering numerous opportunities for mutual growth.

Tech capabilities

Moreover, India showcased its technological capabilities through exhibitions featuring 48 Indian companies specializing in products related to the oil and gas sector. These companies provided affordable, technologically advanced solutions, creating valuable prospects for cooperation with Nigerian oil and gas firms. Balasubramanian underscored the enormous potential for partnership and innovation, emphasising the evolving Indian startup ecosystem, which has witnessed the emergence of over 100 unicorn start-ups in just two years.

Furthermore, he explored opportunities for collaboration in the agritech field. This initiative seeks to facilitate cooperation between agritech innovations and startups in both India and Nigeria. The High Commission has been actively participating in various cultural and community events, including organising an Indian Tea Tasting Event and Yoga Demonstration and Workshop, as well as showcasing Bharatnatyam and Bollywood performances.
