NEW DELHI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather bulletin has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in North India till June 18 andis expected to lessen its effect later. On the other hand, isolated extremely heavy rainfall might persist in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Sub-Himalyan West Bengal during the next 3-4 days.

The Met Department has alerted that intense heatwave conditions are likely to occur in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh today. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand will also deal with the hot spell from June 17 to June 18.

In isolated areas of North Rajasthan, Jammu, and Himachal Pradesh, heatwave conditions are going to affect people from June 17 to June 18. There is also a chance that there will be respite from the hot weather thereafter.

According to IMD’s weather report, the Southwest Monsoon is anticipated to further spread its presence into parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Maharashtra, Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Northwest Bay of Bengal, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh in a couple of days.

A cyclonic circulation has been identified over northeast Assam, one more has also been located over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. It has also warned that an east-west channel is heading towards Meghalaya from northwest Bihar in the lower tropospheric levels. As a result of these weather conditions, extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Meghalaya and Assam from June 17to June 20.
