NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in several diplomatic discussions on the sidelines of the three-day Munich Security Conference.
He held talks with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, covering topics like connectivity and the changing dynamics in the Middle East, as well as reaffirming the strong strategic ties between India and Saudi Arabia.
The minister also met Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. He pushed for reforms in global governance and stressed the importance of a fairer international order.
In discussions with Friedrich Merz, the leader of the Opposition in German federal parliament, and his team from the Christian Democratic Union, the Minister focused on strengthening India’s relations with Germany and the European Union (EU), and exploring areas of mutual cooperation.
In a post on X, the EAM shared a photograph with his Palestinian counterpart and wrote “Nice to see Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki. Exchanged views on the current situation in Gaza.”
After a gap of six months, the EAM also had a brief interaction with the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Among other global leaders whom the External Affairs Minister met on the sidelines of the conference were former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, German Foreign Policy Advisor Jens Plötner, and Atlantic Council CEO Fred Kempe, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in addressing global challenges and achieving common goals.
