THE Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved five infrastructure projects across four states, three to boost mass-transit in Bengaluru, Thane and Pune, and two to augment air connectivity in Bihar and West Bengal.

The three new metro rail projects include phase three of Bangalore Metro at a cost of Rs 15.60 crore, Thane Integral Ring Metro with an outlay of Rs 12.200 crore and Pune Metro extension project at a cost of around Rs 3000 crore.

Addressing media after the Cabinet meeting on August 16 in, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Bangalore metro projects will help address the traffic congestion in the city.

He said that Thane Integral Ring Metro project will connect prominent areas, including Naupada, Wagle Estate, Dongripada, Hiranandani Estate, Kolshet and Saket. He added that the Pune Metro Phase-1 project will connect Swargate to Katraj.

Vaishnaw said the Cabinet also gave its approval to the new Civil Enclaves at Bihta in Bihar and Bagdogra in West Bengal. He said, as per the approval, new Civil Enclave at Bagdgora Airport will be developed with a total estimated cost of Rs 1,549 crore. The new Civil Enclave at Bihta will be developed at the cost of Rs. 1,413 crore, he added.

The Minister added that the Narendra Modi Government, in its third term, has approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 1.54 lakh crore so far. With these projects, the total value of infrastructure projects cleared by the Government has increased to around Rs2 lakh crore.
