LONDON: If you are in London, or intend to visit sometime this year, you stand a chance to witness what “life as the biggest dinosaur” could have been like.
Beginning April 7, the Natural History Museum has been hosting an exhibition displaying the huge titanosaur Patagotitan mayorum. The event, depicting one of the largest known creatures to have ever walked our planet, will be on till January 7, 2024. Since dinosaurs were identified in the 1800s, they have sparked the imagination of people of all kinds. And now, for the first time, Patagotitan mayorum will be on display in Europe, says the museum’s website.
The creature is said to be four times heavier than ‘Dippy the Diplodocus’ and 12 metres longer than ‘Hope our blue whale’. The exhibition would truly be a spectacle to behold. The British media is already talking about this gigantic creature with some reminding the saga of ‘Jurassic Park’.
As the museum website says: “Surrounded by beautiful illustrations of Cretaceous plants and animals, you’ll follow the life of titanosaur, from a football-sized egg plucked from its nest to a fully grown adult, bearing the marks of an encounter with a ferocious predator that took a bite out of its tail”. Visitors can handle specimens, explore interactives while walking through the gallery. The displays will explain how a creature of such colossal size could have survived the earth of those days.
“You’ll discover how Patagotitan stayed safe, found food and grew to tower head and shoulders above its fellow Cretaceous critters. Get ready to size yourself up against its huge thigh bone, stare into its gigantic sauropod skull and even smell its poo!” promises the Natural History Museum. In addition, visitors can always explore the history of other prehistoric reptiles on exhibit at the museum. There are “dinosaur videos”, quiz shows, and several dinosaur crafts and activities for all.
