NEW DELHI: India’s investment in research and development (R&D) is abysmally low compared to developed countries. While the US spends around $670 billion per year and China about $550 billion, India’s expenditure on research is a paltry $65 billion.

In order to correct this anomaly and increase private investment in R&D, Parliament recently passed a Bill to set up National Research Foundation (NRF). The new body aims at directing research, innovation and entrepreneurship in strategic areas.

Taking a cue from this, Amity University Lucknow has decided to celebrate World Doctorates Day at its campus, on August 25. The 11th International Conference on Issues & Challenges in Doctoral Research will be organised on this occasion in hybrid mode under the aegis of the Global Academy of Doctorates.

The conference is scheduled to address issues and challenges in benchmarking the quality of doctoral research to the highest international standards. There will be 10 sessions spread over 10 hours. These will include one session on research scholars and supervisors; one on critical skills for researchers and one session on country perspectives which will be addressed by experts from the USA, Russia, Nepal, the UK, Oman, Canada, France and the UAE.

Among the speakers at the conference will be Prof Alok K Rai, Vice-Chancellor, Lucknow University; Dr Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida; Dr Aseem Chauhan, Chairman, Amity University Lucknow Campus and Amity Founder President Dr Ashok K Chauhan.
