LONDON: The United Kingdom has decided to roll out the anti-Covid vaccination autumn booster for 2023 for those eligible for the shot, the Department of Health and Social Care said in a statement.
According to it, people at greatest risk of serious illness from Covid, including care home residents, those over 65 years of age, and frontline health and social care workers, are eligible for the autumn vaccine booster. The announcement was made by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.
Protecting vulnerable: “I have now accepted the advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation on eligibility for the 2023 autumn booster programme, to protect those most vulnerable from Covid,” stated Health and Social Care Secretary Steve Barclay soon after the Covid autumn booster programme was announced.
“NHS (National Health Service) England will confirm details on how and when eligible people can access the autumn booster vaccine shortly, and I would urge anyone invited – including those yet to have their first jab – to come forward as soon as possible,” the Secretary added.
The National Health Service is a public-funded healthcare system in England, and one of the four such systems in the United Kingdom. NHS Great Britain is a comprehensive public health service under government administration, established by the National Health Service Act of 1946 and subsequent legislation.
