NEW DELHI: The Indian Space Research Organisation successfully launched the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle rocket carrying seven Singaporean satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on July 30.

Around 23 minutes after lift-off, the primary satellite got separated and it was followed by six other co-passenger satellites, which were deployed into the intended orbits sequentially, the ISRO said.

ISRO chief S Somanath said that all seven satellites have been successfully placed in the right orbit.

Big launch

The PSLV-C56 mission marked the second big launch by the Indian space agency in two weeks. India had previously launched the Chandrayaan-3 mission to the Moon on July 14 from Sriharikota.

The primary payload of the PSLV-C56 mission was the DS-SAR satellite, a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) that creates two-dimensional images or three-dimensional reconstructions of objects.

Developed under a partnership between DSTA, representing the Government of Singapore, and ST Engineering, the DS-SAR satellite will cater to the imagery needs of various Singapore government agencies and ST Engineering’s commercial customers. The launch was conducted by ISRO under a contract with New Space India Limited (NSIL).

More missions

Somnath said ISRO was set to launch four more missions this year which included another PSLV mission in August or early September.
