CALIFORNIA: According to a new study, an injury to one region of the body can trigger a healing response in another. The study was conducted by Professor Wang and his colleagues of the Stanford University who discovered that this whole-body synchronisation is essential for wound healing and subsequent tissue regeneration.

A mouse with a leg injury experiences a‘awakening’ of stem cells in the other leg, as though the cells are ready to mend the lesion. Axolotls, which is the master of limb regeneration, exhibit similar behaviour. Heart damage in Zebrafish can cause alterations in distant organs such as the kidney and brain.

“In many different organisms, you can see the whole body respond to an injury. But whether or not those responses actually have any function has been unclear,” said Wang. Tags Stanford Univerrity.Zebafish. kidney
