LONDON: Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom, came in for high praise from Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She told Lord Swraj Paul that Doraiswami had done a commendable job during his stint in Bangladesh between October 2020 and September 2022.
During a visit here to attend the coronation of King Charles III, Sheikh Hasina met the Indian-born British businessman and philanthropist. The two had wide-ranging discussion on BanglaIndia and Bangla-UK relations. The main focus of the discussion, however, was Doraiswami, who was India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh before joining his UK posting in September last year.
An IFS officer of the 1992-batch, Doraiswami was born to a Tamil military family. His father was an Air Force officer who fought in the Bangladesh Liberation war.
It is worth recalling that Lord Paul had met the Bangladesh PM in September last year also when the latter was in London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
During the meeting, the Indian-origin peer in the UK’s House of Lords had committed to invest in order to create a girls college in Dhaka.
