NEW DELHI: Hyderabad was abuzz with excitement as it played host to the electrifying second meeting of G20 Digital Economy Working Group spanning three action-packed days and concluding with a bang on April 19. The inclusive and diverse gathering saw a total of 81 foreign delegates from G20 members, 8 guest countries, 5 international organizations, and one regional organisation.

The first day saw three thematic sessions taking place on ‘High-Speed Mobile Broadband and its Impact’; ‘Digital Inclusion – Connecting the Unconnected’ and ‘Sustainable Green Digital Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities’.

Delegates also witnessed cuttingedge technologies in action, which showcased India’s position as a leader in the digital space.

The second day kicked off with the proceedings being initiated by Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary, MeitY, followed by a multi-stakeholder workshop on “Mutual Recognition Framework on Digital Skills.” Experts from the government, industry, and academia presented best practices and latest initiatives on the subject and emphasised the importance of inclusive development.

Cyber security discussed

On the third and final day, there were discussions on ‘Digital Public Infrastructure’ and ‘Cyber Security in Digital Economy’. Delegates also enjoyed several cultural programmes that highlighted the richness of Indian culture, cuisine, arts, and folk forms. The meeting concluded successfully with a visit to Hyderabad’s iconic Golconda Fort.

The third meeting of this working group will take place in June in Pune, Maharashtra. This Hyderabad meeting has set the tone for future discussions on concrete and practical steps that can be taken under the priority area of ‘digital skilling.
