NEW DELHI: The BJP on June 2 returned to power in Arunachal Pradesh for the third time in a row, as the party won 37 seats in the 60-member assembly and secured majority, Election Commission officials said.
Counting of votes was underway for 50 seats for which elections were held in the northeastern state along with LokSabha polls on April 19. The rest 10 seats were won by the saffron party uncontested.
Chief Minister PemaKhanduwas one of the 10 candidates who won unopposed.The BJP has already won 10 seats unopposed in Arunachal. Chief Minister PemaKhandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein have already won their respective seats.
The majority mark in the Arunachal Assembly is 31.
In Sikkim, the ruling Sikkim KrantikariMorecha (SKM) has surpassed the halfway mark, securing 23 out of 32 assembly seats in the state. Chief Minister and leader of SKM,Prem Singh Tamang, won the Rhenock constituency securing a decisive win over his SDF rival SomNath by a margin of 7.044 votes.
