UK in India has hailed the successful conclusion of its Littoral Response Group (LRG) monthlong visit to India. The LRG’s maiden deployment in the Indian Ocean region underscores the dawn of a new chapter in UK-India defence partnership. LRG, a task group of the UK Royal Navy, arrived in Chennai on March 26.
Taking to social media platform X, Brigadier Nick Sawyer, Defence Advisor, British High Commission, said “Last month, the UK’s Littoral Response Group (South) completed a landmark visit to India, adding a new dimension to the already vibrant maritime pillar of the UK-India defence partnership.”
He added, “These activities strengthen the foundation laid for future maritime engagements as part of the 2030 UK-India Roadmap.” The Littoral Response Group (South) comprises a versatile amphibious task force equipped to undertake a diverse range of operations in littoral environments. It includes ships like the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and the RFA Lyme Bay, along with embarked forces centred on a Royal Marines strike force.
This visit marked a significant milestone as it was for the first time that a Royal Navy vessel underwent maintenance at an Indian shipyard.
