NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said the Supreme Court has strengthened India’s vibrant democracy. He highlighted the significant role the Supreme Court plays in upholding the principles of freedom, equality, and justice outlined in the Indian constitution.

Inaugurating the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Supreme Court of India in Delhi on January 28, PM Modi said that the Government is actively working on modernising laws to align with the present situation and best practices. He reiterated the parameters of goals for the next 25 years for every branch of the Government and said that today’s economic policies will form the basis of tomorrow’s vibrant India. “Laws that are being laid down today will strengthen the bright future of India”, PM Modi said.

He said that a strong judicial system is the main foundation of a developed India. He informed that the Government has given approval of Rs 800 crore for the new Supreme Court building.

Noting that the entire justice system in the country is administered and guided by the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister stressed the Government’s prioritisation towards making the Supreme Court accessible to the remotest parts. He said that the fund allocation for the third phase the E-Courts Mission Project has been increased four times more than the second phase.

PM Modi said that the digitisation of all courts in the country is being monitored by the Chief Justice of India himself and congratulated him for his efforts.

On the occasion, Prime Minister launched citizen-centric information and technology initiatives that include Digital Supreme Court Reports (Digi SCR), Digital Court 2.0 and new website of Supreme Court.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said people now have the facility of filing cases at the click of a button. He said an upgraded version of the Supreme Court’s e-filing platform was launched in May last year which offers a host of improved features that have made 24×7 filing of cases simpler, faster and convenient. He added that nearly one lakh 28 thousand e-filings have been done so far.
