NEW DELHI: In a significant diplomatic development, India and the United Kingdom engaged in their inaugural ‘2+2’ foreign and defence dialogue, underscoring their commitment to bolster cooperation across various critical domains.
The dialogue, which took place on October 16, at the senior official level, marked a crucial milestone in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, and discussions spanned a wide spectrum of key areas.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement that during the dialogue, both sides delved into possibilities for deeper collaboration, with a focus on trade and investment, defence, emerging technologies, civil aviation, healthcare, energy, and cultural ties.
This expansive agenda reflects the multifaceted nature of the India-UK partnership, extending beyond the traditional realms of diplomacy.
In addition to these discussions, international developments were a prominent topic of conversation. Of particular significance was the examination of Indo-Pacific dynamics, aligning with the shared vision of both countries for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. The Indo-Pacific has emerged as a pivotal geopolitical theatre, and India and the UK appear poised to enhance their cooperative efforts within this context.
