Starting in a rented room by Jaydal Goenka and Hanuman Prasad Poddar as a unit of the Govind Bhawan Karyalaya, Kolkata, Gita Press is today the world’s largest publication centre of Hindu religious literature.

Since its establishment, it has published more than 140 million copies of Bhagvad Gita and 100 million copies of the Ramcharitamanas, at subsidised price.

Its publications are available in English, Hindi and other Indian languages throughout India and in major foreign capitals. The art gallery at the press has the lilas (works or plays) of Lord Rama and Lord Krishna portrayed in 684 paintings by famed artists of the past and present.

Gita Press archives contain over 3,500 manuscripts including over 100 interpretations of the Bhagvad Gita.
